Promotion of best international standards and practice in the hospitality and food processing sectors


The Nepal Bureau of Standards & Metrology (NSBM), support by the TPSD held a public awareness workshop  last week on Oct 4th in Pokhara, to promote use of international management systems standards in the hospitality and food processing sectors. The target audience are hotels, restaurants and food processing enterprise. The increased use of management systems standards will strengthen the quality environment and capacity of Nepali food processing to compete in export markets and strengthen the capacity of the hospitality sector to attract more tourists and investment. The workshop was attended by 53 persons mostly from the private sector including representatives from the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) and the Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN). A second workshop will be held in Chitwan after Tihar. The standards included:
 
  • ISO 9001:2015 ‘Quality Management System Requirements’;
  • ISO 14001:2015 ‘Environmental management systems -- Requirements with guidance for use’
  • ISO 22000:2018 ‘Food safety management systems -- Requirements for any organization in the food chain’
